Amador obtained his doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in 1995. Since then and until 2022, Amador was a faculty member in the Departments of Mechanical Engineering at Universidad de Santiago de Chile, Pontificia Universidad Catolica de Chile, and Universidad Diego Portales, Chile. His areas of research and development are fluid mechanics and heat transfer at the macro, micro and nano levels, with an emphasis on energy conversion systems based on solar and thermal energy and in microchannel electrokinetic flows for life sciences. Amador and his team in Chile worked on developing and testing novel energy conversion systems, and detecting biological particles, such as viruses and bacteria, and metallic pollutant particles, such as arsenic and mercury, using experimental and analytical/numerical approaches. At ATOMS Lab, Amador is conducting research and supporting training activities on thermal management of batteries and other electric vehicle sub-systems using approaches that combine analytical models, experiments and numerical simulations
