Yongzhen is an undergraduate mechanical engineering student at the University of Toronto, recently finishing his third year focusing on mechatronic and energy streams. His passion for sustainable engineering led him to assess the environmental impact of single-use and rechargeable lithium-ion batteries in personal electronics for one of his past projects. Yongzhen’s work at the ATOMS Lab consists of the development of thermodynamic models of cylindrical and pouch lithium-ion batteries. Using these models, he aims to develop testing methodologies and equipment to understand, evaluate, and predict the change in performance characteristics with the aging of lithium-ion batteries.
