Jimmy Gan
PhD Student
Jimmy Gan is a PhD student in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto. His research focuses on modelling fluid-structure interactions in wind turbines using advanced scientific machine learning methods. His work integrates aeroelasticity, structural dynamics, unsteady aerodynamics, and uncertainty propagation within physics-informed neural network architectures to develop highly accurate, computationally efficient surrogate models.
Jimmy earned his BASc in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Toronto in 2016 and his MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University in 2023. He is a licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.), accredited in 2020. Prior to his doctoral studies, he served as the engineer-of-record for several high-profile renewable energy, mining, and infrastructure projects in Canada.
