Nafiz Ahmed Khan

PhD Student

Nafiz is a PhD student in the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Toronto, Canada. His main area of research is the development of wake models for the purpose of predicting wakes behind wind turbines through the use of machine learning, specifically deep learning. In addition, he would be integrated with machine learning, CFD, and a developed wake model to anticipate wind farm layout optimization.

Nafiz obtained both his Bachelor of Science in Aerospace Engineering (2017) and his Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (2021) from the Military Institute of Science and Technology, Dhaka, Bangladesh. His MSc thesis investigated the addition of winglets to the leading edge of wind turbine blades in order to improve their performance. In order to improve the aerodynamic performance of the airfoil, his bachelor’s project entailed moving surface boundary layer control on the leading edge of the airfoil. Before joining the ATOMS lab, Nafiz worked as a faculty member (lecturer) at one of the aerospace universities in his home country, Bangladesh.
